Recruiters at US and global companies hiring a remote Project Manager want evidence that you can run cross-functional delivery across time zones without supervision: clear scope, named owners, dated milestones, and a stakeholder communication rhythm they can trust. They scan for the job title or a recognized equivalent, years of hands-on PM experience, the specific tools the posting names (Jira, Asana, Confluence, MS Project, Smartsheet, or similar), the industry or product domain, and measurable outcomes such as on-time delivery, budget control, or team size. They also check that your English is strong enough for daily written and spoken updates.
What changes compared with a local resume in Europe, Africa, Asia or Latin America: use US English spelling and formats (no photo, no date of birth, no marital status, no national ID), state your location with time zone and the word Remote, and write job titles in market English (Junior, Mid-level, Senior Project Manager) rather than local equivalents. Quantify every project with budget, team size, user count or duration. Name the tools exactly as the job posting does. Be explicit about work authorization or contracting model (independent contractor, or employment through an Employer of Record such as Deel or Remote), because remote hiring managers often need to know this before interviewing.
What your resume must show
- Your current or most recent title must read as Project Manager (or Senior Project Manager) with the employer and dates clearly visible.
- The project management tools named in the posting (for example Jira, Asana, Confluence) must appear explicitly in at least one role, with the exact term used.
- Your scope must be quantified with team size, budget, number of projects or number of users so the recruiter can judge seniority.
- Your methodology (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall or hybrid) must be stated in a bullet tied to a real project, not only in the skills list.
- Your English level and your remote collaboration experience (distributed teams, time-zone overlap, async updates) must be stated in the summary or skills section.

Common mistakes outside the US
- Listing a local title such as 'Kierownik projektu' or 'Gerente de Proyectos' without the English equivalent; fix it by writing 'Project Manager' and keeping the local title in parentheses only if the employer requires it.
- Writing duties instead of results (for example 'responsible for schedules'); fix it by stating what was delivered, measured by what number, and how you did it.
- Including a photo, date of birth or marital status, which US recruiters read as unprofessional or irrelevant; fix it by removing all personal data beyond name, city, country and contact details.
- Failing to say you are remote-ready (no time zone, no mention of remote teams); fix it by adding your UTC offset and the word Remote in the header and one bullet on distributed team work.
- Leaving out your work-authorization or contracting model, so recruiters stop before contacting you; fix it by adding a line such as 'Available as independent contractor or via EOR (Deel)'.

Should I apply to US companies if I live in Europe and my time zone is different?
Yes. Many US companies hire remote project managers in Europe, especially for roles with a 3 to 5 hour daily overlap. State your time zone and available overlap hours clearly in your header and summary so recruiters can filter quickly.
Do I need a PMP or PRINCE2 certification to get hired?
Not always, but it helps with recruiters and ATS filters. If you have one, list it under a Certifications heading with the issuing body and year. If you do not, focus on demonstrable delivery results and tools named in the posting, and consider a Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or PSM I as an affordable first step.
Should I use a local CV template or a US resume format?
Use a US resume format: one or two pages, no photo, no personal data beyond name and contact details, reverse-chronological experience, and US English spelling. Save it as a text-searchable PDF so applicant tracking systems can read it.
