Recruiters at US and global companies hiring a Backend Engineer for remote roles want to see, within the first 10 seconds, the years of backend experience, the languages and frameworks used in production, the databases and cloud platforms, and the kind of systems built (APIs, data pipelines, high-traffic services, payments, etc.). They screen fast and match keywords against the job description, so vague phrases like "worked on the backend" get skipped. A resume that is strong locally often fails abroad because it describes responsibilities instead of outcomes, omits scale and impact, and lists no clear remote-work evidence.
What changes versus a local resume: use US Letter or A4 with no photo, date of birth, marital status or nationality; write numbers (users, requests per second, latency, cost saved, team size); name the exact tools from the job posting; state your work authorization or contract model (contractor, EOR, or own company) in plain terms; and show English that can be read without effort. Keep the layout one or two pages, reverse chronological, with a summary that names your core stack in the first line.
What your resume must show
- Your headline states Backend Engineer at your level (Mid-level, Senior) plus your primary language or stack, so the title matches the job posting.
- Total years of professional backend experience and the main languages and frameworks appear in the summary and in the first line of your most recent role.
- Each core tool from the job posting (for example PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS) appears explicitly in at least one role with what you did with it.
- At least one or two bullets per role include a measurable result (latency, throughput, users served, cost reduction, incident reduction) so impact is visible at a glance.
- Your remote availability, time zone overlap with US hours, English level with proof, and contract model (contractor or EOR) are stated clearly near the top.

SUMMARY
Senior Backend Engineer with 7 years of experience building Python and Go APIs and data services for a B2B SaaS platform serving 40,000 business users. Designs and operates PostgreSQL, Redis and AWS services with a focus on reliability, query performance and clear incident response. Available for remote work with 6 hours of overlap with US Eastern hours.
EXPERIENCE
- Lead the design of a Python and FastAPI service layer handling 3,500 requests per minute, reducing p95 latency from 420 ms to 180 ms by adding Redis caching and rewriting slow PostgreSQL queries.
- Build and maintain event-driven pipelines on AWS (SQS, Lambda, S3) that process 12 million records per day for customer reporting, cutting nightly batch failures by 60 percent through idempotent retries and monitoring.
- Mentor 3 backend engineers through code reviews and design docs, and run the on-call rotation for a 9-service platform with an average incident response time under 20 minutes.
- Migrate 6 legacy services to Docker containers deployed with Kubernetes on AWS EKS, reducing infrastructure cost by 22 percent per year.
- Developed REST APIs in Python and Django for a payments gateway processing 600,000 transactions per month, keeping uptime above 99.9 percent.
- Designed the PostgreSQL schema and reconciliation jobs for settlement reporting used by 150 merchants.

Common mistakes outside the US
- Listing only job duties like "responsible for backend development" instead of outcomes; fix it by writing what you built, measured by what result.
- Omitting the scale of systems (requests per day, number of users, data volume); fix it by adding a number to each major project, even an approximate one.
- Using local-only titles or company descriptions that US recruiters cannot place; fix it by using market English titles and a one-line description of the company's product and size.
- Hiding your location or time zone, which makes recruiters assume you cannot overlap with US hours; fix it by stating your city, country, UTC offset and available overlap hours in the header.
- Burying the tool list in a long paragraph or a skills section with no context; fix it by naming each tool inside a role bullet so the recruiter's keyword match is confirmed by evidence.

Should I include my salary expectations on my resume?
No. Leave salary off the resume and answer it in the recruiter screen, where you can state a range in USD or EUR tied to the role's level and location policy.
Do I need a US address or a US-style resume format to get interviews?
You do not need a US address, but you should use US Letter or A4 with a clean one-column layout, no photo, and a clear statement of your remote availability and contract model.
How do I show work authorization without sounding like a problem?
State your model plainly in the header, such as independent contractor or EOR through Deel, so recruiters know how they can hire you without visa sponsorship.
