What recruiters abroad look for

Recruiters at US and global companies hiring a Financial Analyst remotely look first for hands-on FP&A or financial modeling experience, fluent business English, and evidence that your numbers changed a decision. They screen fast for the tools named in the job posting (Excel, SQL, Power BI, NetSuite, Anaplan, Tableau and similar), for the business domain (SaaS, ecommerce, manufacturing), and for the reporting cadence you have owned, such as monthly close, rolling forecasts or board packs. They also check whether you can work with US time zones and whether you are reachable as a contractor or through an Employer of Record.

A local European resume often leads with education, lists duties instead of outcomes, uses local currency and tax terms, and omits the metric that shows impact. For a US-facing role, put the job title and tools at the top, write each bullet as a measurable result, convert currencies to USD or state the currency clearly, use US date and spelling conventions, and state your time zone and work authorization status. Add the business outcome to every bullet, not only the task.

What your resume must show

  1. State your current or most recent title in market English (for example Financial Analyst or Senior Financial Analyst) in the headline so it matches the job title.
  2. Name each required tool exactly as the job posting writes it (for example Excel, SQL, Power BI, NetSuite) and use the acronym once, such as Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A).
  3. Show at least one bullet with a number that says what the forecast, model or report changed, such as forecast error reduced or close days cut.
  4. List the domain and company type you have worked in (for example B2B SaaS, 200 employees) so recruiters can match your background to theirs.
  5. Give your English level with proof (CEFR level plus a test score or a note that you have worked in English daily) and your availability as a contractor or through an Employer of Record.

Common mistakes outside the US

  1. Listing duties such as 'responsible for budgeting' instead of outcomes; fix it by naming the scope and result, for example 'owned a USD 4M annual budget and cut variance to plan from 9% to 3%'.
  2. Keeping local currency (EUR, PLN, GBP) without context; fix it by converting to USD or writing 'EUR 2.1M (approx. USD 2.3M)' once.
  3. Writing the headline as a local job title such as 'Analityk finansowy' or 'Controller'; fix it by using the market title that matches the posting, such as 'Financial Analyst'.
  4. Omitting tools or naming only generic 'advanced Excel'; fix it by naming the exact tools (Excel with pivot models, SQL, Power BI) and the year you last used each one.
  5. Leaving out time zone and work status, which makes recruiters assume you cannot join; fix it by adding a line such as 'Europe (CET, UTC+1) · Remote · Available as independent contractor or via EOR'.

FAQ

Do I need a US degree or US work authorization to apply for remote Financial Analyst roles?

No degree from the US is required, but state your degree clearly in English. Most US and global companies hire remote contractors or use an Employer of Record (such as Deel or Remote), so say whether you need a contract or EOR setup and avoid implying you can be hired as a US employee unless you can.

Should I list my time zone and currency on my resume?

Yes. Add your city, country and UTC offset in the header so recruiters can plan overlap hours. Convert local currency amounts to USD or state both once, so the scale of your work is clear to a US reader.

How do I prove my English level for an international Financial Analyst role?

State your CEFR level and a recent test result, such as IELTS 7.5 or TOEFL 100, or say that you have worked in English daily for several years. Keep the claim accurate, since interviews for this role include reading and explaining financial statements in English.
